Our first week of school will be spent primarily getting to know each other, to understand what is expected - not only in terms of classwork (hard work rules the day!) but also what is expected from a respect standpoint (all of us) We will begin decorating and setting up our interactive student notebooks later (near the end) of the week.
The week of 8/19- 8/23 we will begin our study of geography with activities that will ask " how does geography affect the way people live and work?" We will also define geography terms. Midweek will see writing activities (Wednesday-Thursday) and natural resources will be examined later in the week. (Thursday-Friday) For specific daily activities, please check my calendar.
the week of 8/26-8/30 we will begin our study of the four Texas regions (Coastal Plains, N. Central Plains, Great Plains and Mountains and Basins)
The week of will examine maps, take a quiz, look at the Mountains and Basins , review for our test and take our test ( our quiz is scheduled for and our test is scheduled for --- quizzes are generally open notebook, but tests are not)
The week of 9/9-9/13 we will examine the Mountains and Basins region and take our Unit 1 test
The week of 9/16-9/20 we will begin our Government unit - we will look at the impact of 9/11 and students will "create" their constitution
The week of 9/23-9/27 we will examine the 7 principles of the Constitution
The week of 9/30-10/4 we will continue the study of government with emphasis on the 1st Amendment, Bill of Rights and Principles of the Constitution with our test taking place on 9/27 and review on 9/26
The week of 10/7-10/11 begin our unit on natives and explorers
The week of 10/14 -10/18 we begin our study of Texas natives and their impact on our history and culture
The week of 10/21 -10/25 we begin our study of the explorers (conquistadors and friars) - who they are and why did they come here?
The week of 10/28 - 11/01 we begin our study of the Missions, and the impact they had on Texas and its development, how the Spanish had significant influence and impact
The week of 11/4-11/08 we will continue our pick 3 activity and begin the next unit where Spain loses control of Texas
The week of 11/11 -11/15 we will examine Stephen F. Austin and his role as an empersario and colonizing Texas
week of 11/18 -11/22 we will conclude our unit and take our unit 4 exam
we will continue with examining the new colonists/residents of Texas, Mier y Teran, the Fredonian Rebellion and Anahuac Turtle Bayou and Velasco battle(s)
12/2 - 12/6 we will review for and take our unit 4 test and begin review for our MOY test
12/9 -12/13 we will take our MOY test and decorate our 2nd semester notebooks (please make sure your student has one as we will continue to utilize them on a regular basis)
12/16-12/20 final exams
1/8/20 - 1/11/20 (beginning of 2nd semester)
1/14/20- 1/18/20 we will examine the Battle of Gonzales and Travis' "Victory or Death letter"
1/21/20-1/25/20 we will look at the Goliad Massacre, The Battle of San Jacinto and the Runaway Scrape
1/28/20-2/1/20 we will begin looking at Houston's 1st term as President of The Republic of Texas
2/4/20 -2/8/20 we will examine Lamar's presidency and Houston's 2nd term
2/11/20-2/15/20 we will look at Manifest Destiny and the Mexican War and its impact on Texas and the US
2/18/20-2/22/20 we will take our unit test and look at the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
2/25/20-3/1/20 we will begin to look at slavery and its impact on the United States
3/4/20 - 3/8/20 we will examine the causes of Civil War and how it changed America
3/11/20 - 3/15/20 SPRING BREAK
3/18/20-3/22/20 we will take a look at the Civil war in detail and begin our Civil War map
3/25/20-3/29/20 we will examine how the Civil War shaped the future from Reconstruction and how the South will adjust
4-1-20 - 4-5-20 we will take a look at cowboys, ranchers, farming and the Indian War
4/8-4/12 we will look at the cattle drives, branding and the open range and the impact on the development and economy of Texas
4/15-4/19 we will look at key figure(s) in Texas and how they influenced the early development of Texas post Civil War
4/22-4/26 we will look at oil and its impact
4/29-5/3 we will continue with the study of oil and begin our look at World War I
5/6-5/10 we will continue with World War I and look at World War II
5/13-5/17 STAAR week
5/20-5/24
5/27-5-30 Finals week (and final week!)
